Core

The core of an art is that it emerges from various inner emotions.

The core of craft is creative results achieved on skills.

Art with examples:

As said earlier, Art is the creative expression of one’s emotions. Let us understand it with an example:-

Suppose any one watching an entertainment show (like Dance) watches the show because of his/her liking for it. Here the dance is a form of art as it involves the performers emotion for their work as well as viewers, because they entertain themselves with the beauty of performer.

Both viewer and the performer are experiencing a form of art. Likewise any person doing any specific work with emotion involved in it can be referred to as an “Artist”.

Some more examples are Singing, Acting, Drawing, Print-making, Photography.

Craft with Examples:

Craft is any skill to create some product. It requires human knowledge and techniques along with physical work.

Let us understand with an example:-

Suppose a person visits a village fair and buys certain handicraft items. The handicraft item can be any pottery or paperwork, which involves a certain knowledge and expertise to build.

These items are nothing but crafts. Here no emotions are involved. Decorative Art, Studio-crafts, glass art, woodturning, and weaving are some other forms of Craft.

Key Differences between Art and Craft

Art is described as an unstructured and open-ended form of work; that expresses emotions, feelings, and vision. Craft denotes a form of work, involving the creation of physical objects, by the use of hands and brain.

Art can’t be copied as it depends totally on one’s emotion, whereas craft can be copied by acquiring a particular skill. Creativity comes from craft whereas Art enhances beauty.

Craft can be quantified easily but art provides qualified results. Art comes from one’s inner soul (or emotion) whereas craft is work of the mind. The basis of art is artistic merit but craft relies on learned skills and techniques.
