Who is a Creative Director?
A creative director is a person in charge of the advertisement (or in particular sales) team. The role of the director is to bring out the best creative ideas in order to sell the service or goods that the company has to sell. Also, they are responsible for many managerial-level decisions. They are generally very active and work closely with the creative team as well as the clients for regular updates and feedback.
Let’s look at a creative director’s vision. Suppose there is a set (for films) to be created and the responsibility is in the hands of a creative director. The set will have a more creative look and the director will mostly focus on the creativity rather than just some sort of materials on the set.

Creative
Directors start working as soon as the project is in hand. They have the
responsibility to satisfy the client’s needs. Thus, their role revolves around
mentoring the team and providing eye-catching ideas. They also have to ensure
that the brand image of the company remains at the helm. Once discussions are
done, then they divide roles among the team – a managerial decision, though
sometimes.
Who is an Art Director?
Once the Creative Director gives the framework and idea of the project, the art director involves with the team for its execution. The Art Director sits with the other members of the team like graphic designers, editors, and moves on with the implementation of the idea. Generally, the art director handles the technical aspects of the team.
The
art director mainly focuses on the completion of the technical requirements of
a film set (when asked to design). Their core focus is on video editing and the final presentation of the work rather than giving importance to smaller things
during the execution process.

The
idea for creating something creative for advertisement or selling purposes is
the key feature of a creative director. On the other hand art director just
executes the plan/idea provided by the creative director.
In
general, creative direction deals in multiple ways whereas, art direction
remains attached to its very core of playing with the technical aspects to
bring the idea to life.
The creative direction as the name suggests is way broader and spread into various strings than its counterpart. It requires thorough study and research in-depth to become one. However, the art direction has its set of challenges from learning various technical skills like graphic designing, editing, etc. But the former is more related to managerial skills than technical, as in the case of the later ones.

After
discussing the aspects and roles of a creative director and art director in an
organization, let’s find out what suits you. If you love creativity and want
to explore by trying new ideas, then the creative direction is the path you should
go for. If you are more passionate about the technical beauty of direction -
art direction is for you.

both of the direction fields have an enormous amount of scope and good career
prospects. So one mustn’t hesitate to gear up for deciding a career in these
fields. However, the choice of choosing between technical and creativity
totally depends on one’s interest.
